FOR THE LOVE OF THE CONTINENT

Today i celebrate AU day.A day which is conceptualised as the birthmark of African Unity. As a continent we need to reflect on our past. Where we came from, where we have gotten to and where we are going.

Some school think , The prosperity of Africa is impossible. We can never have sustainable development as a continent.But i have always argued against this notion. I believe in a day where this continent will full of honey.

That day will come but it will be unfortunate that i might not see that day. I will be dead and gone. Therefore whiles i am alive today, i need to contribute my quota to make the Africa i dream of a reality.

As a Ghanaian and an African i need to uphold the integrity of my nation and the continent. I have to be a great thinker,  thinker of great thought to change the face of Ghana and Africa.

In a speech at the opening Ghana National College  ( Osagyefo's own school) , Nkrumah urged all students to consider  laziness a crime. It is in the same vein i ask all citizens to consider Laziness a crime and help build this nation and continent.

If you are a student, "Of what use is your education if you cannot help your country in her hour of need?" Osagyefo  said on that same where Ghana college was opened. I put before you fellow Ghanaians and Africans , OF WHAT USE IS YOUR EXISTENCE IF YOU CANNOT HELP YOUR COUNTRY AND CONTINENT IN HER OUR OF NEED?.
Do you need Bribe to do your duties?
Do you need to be begged take on your own responsibilities?.

Ghana needs you, Africa needs you,The world need you. Yes we can and i believe we Can .

MR SACKEY (A.K.A MEDAASE) HONOURED AS THE BEST SECURITY EXPERT AND TRAFFIC DIRECTOR IN UCC

The entire student body will praise thr  S.R.C of the university of Cape Coast  for honouring Mr Sackey at the just ended S.R.C awards night.

Mr Sackey popular know us "Medaase" or "Drive Drive Drive " was honoured as the best security expert and traffic director in the maiden edition of the UCC S.R.C awards night.

His special slogan medaase could be heard all over the auditorium as soon as his name was mentioned. It seemed the entire university student approved of this award because of the tremendous job he was doing and is still doing even now that there is a Traffic light on campus.

The committee deemed his award a special one therefore Prof E.K.Oduro was called to present this award to Mr Sackey.However the student body were disappointed because Mr Sackey couldn't make it to the awards night.The award was received on his behalf by a colleague.

My lowest grade in UCC was a B+

James gardiner ,a very popular actor in the Ghanaian movie industry was awarded at the recent U.C.C SRC awards night.

After receiving the award, He thanked all his fans and also extended his gratitude to the University for honouring him with such an award. As an alumnus of the university of Cape Coast , he was awarded for his tremendous work in the movie industry.

However some extract from his speech has become the talk of the day. And i quote " I never missed any lectures when i was in UCC". It didn't just end there ,He added,  "My lowest grade in UCC was a B+".

James might have been a good student during his time but most student are suprised we never heard James being the overall best student during his time. This article is just to ask Mr Gardiner if he could share with us the class he obtained in UCC since most student sees it as something impossible.

KWAW KESE , OHEMAA MERCY , YOLO CREW and OTHERS HONOURED BY UCC S.R.C

The University of Cape coast S.R.C had it maiden awards night on the 30th of April 2016.The awards night saw the presence of some  popular names from our entertainment industry passing through. Kwaw Kese popular know as Abodam who recently got married happened to be a guest of honour at the ceremony

Not only was he regarded as a guest of honour , he was honoured with a citation by the university with regards to the Kwaw kese foundation which has touched many lives in our prisons.

Other dignitaries who were awarded at the ceremony were, James Gardiner who was awarded for his good work in the movie industry and also a proud alumnus of UCC. Ohemaa Mercy also picked an award for her special humanitarian work with the Ohemaa Mercy foundation.

The most trending youth series  was also not left out.The S.R.C also awarded the yolo crew for their great job in educating the youth .Baffour must walk initiators were also nt left out for how they have supported in raising funds for Baffour to be able to be on his feet.
Uncle Ato a renowned gospel artist who graced the occasion was also not left out.

THE MAD SCRAMBLE FOR AFRICA

Prof. Walter Rodney asks a pertinent question “What would have been Britain’s level of development had millions of her people been put to work as slaves out of their country over a period of four centuries?” As if slavery had not already done enough damage to Africa’s people, European leaders met in Germany from December 1884 to February 1885 at the imperialist Berlin Conference The Belgian King Leopold stated the purpose of the Berlin Conference as “How we should divide among ourselves this magnificent African cake.” Africa was thus plunged into another human tragedy.

Through the Berlin Treaty of 26 February 1885 the European imperialists sliced Africa into “Portuguese Africa”, “British Africa”, “German Africa”, “Italian Africa,” “Spanish Africa”, “French Africa” and “Belgian Africa,” Comrades, Slavery and colonialism enriched Europe and reduced Africa to abject poverty. The riches of Africa and her raw materials fuelled the economies of imperialist countries. The British Prime Minister, Sir Winston Churchill bore testimony to this fact when he said: “Our possession of the West Indies gave us the strength, the support, but especially the capital, the wealth, at the time when no other European nations possessed such reserve, which enabled us to come through the great struggles of the Napoleonic Wars.

The keen competition of commerce in the 18th and 19th centuries enabled us not only to acquire this appendage of possessions which we have but also to lay the foundations of that commercial and financial leadership which when the world was young,…enabled us to make our great position in the world " It was against this background of genocide in the name of “European civilisation” that Africans in the Diaspora who had been shipped from Africa and enslaved in the West Indies and in the Americas realised that the solution to Africa’s people both at home and abroad was Pan Africanism the Pan Africanism is a political philosophy that was conceived in the womb of Africa and now We must claim our inheritance to be a total people Africa’s riches belong to Africa’s people The control of our resources and land was the substance and objective of Africa’s liberation struggle Africans cannot face the onslaughts of imperialism without Pan Africanism because the imperialists are determined to loot the riches of Africa for themselves, even using violence or financing proxy wars in Africa to achieve their heinous objectives and Pan Africanism must never be just a meeting of African Heads of State Pan Africanism created African States.

Pan Africanism is older than these states. A United States of Africa has taken so long because many African leaders in this African Union are not Pan Africanists and They have no qualifications to drive the Pan African agenda It is like asking capitalists to drive a communist agenda or asking communists to drive a capitalist agenda.

FINDING ABRAHAM ATTAH'S KIND

Abraham Attah the young Ghanaian rising Star has been all over the media for the past week.

The young boy without any acting background featured in his first movie tittled Beast of No Nation which was produced by Netflix Production.
He played a role along side vetran American actor Idris Elba and some Ghanaian stars .
According to him, the director of the movie spotted him on a school field and the rest is history.
One movie has won him several awards in his home country and other international platforms. He recently presented an award at the Oscar awards.

The quick turnover of Abraham's life is a pure eputome of the usual saying "From grass to grace " and from "zero to hero". But the question i ask myself is that How many Of his kind are walking on the street of Ashaiman where he was found by the foreign production house?

There are so many Of Abraham Attah 's kind walking on the streets of Ghana. But the problem we have as Ghanaians is that , we have neglected the sense of communualism we had.
The society now lies on the WHOM YOU KNOW philosophy.
From Birth Cert office to Passport office, Banks to Hospital,Shs to Universities. The sense of individualism has flooded our medulla.

This has led to a lot of hidden potentials in our society. We need to help each other and by so doing we can unearthen a lot of Talent. We can find a lot of Abraham  Attah in our Society.

THE ORIGIN OF VALENTINES DAY

The origin of Valentines day has a really deep connection with romanticism and love. Is the day in which the lovers show their feelings to the person they love, sadly on these modern times it has become like most of the holidays, something materialistic and commercial.

The origin of Valentines day goes all the way back to the days of the Roman Empire, when Emperor Claudius II was the ruler. In an attempt to have more soldiers for his army, he tried to recruit every man possible, but when he saw that the men refused to leave their wives and family, he decided that all marriages should be forbidden.

But there was a priest who was loved in Rome by everyone, who thought it was unfair for young lovers not get married and share their life with the person they love. The name of the priest was Valentine, and he started to marry couples in secret. When Claudius II found out about the secret marriages, was furious and ordered that Valentine should be put in jail, where he spent the rest of his life. When he died his friends recovered his body and buried it on a churchyard in Rome.

One more version says that Valentine used to help everyone, even Christians, this was forbidden by the Emperor, who put him in jail. While he was prisoner, Valentine felt in love with one of the jailer's daughter, and every day he used to send her love notes signed : "From Your Valentine". Sadly one day the Emperor ordered that he should be beaten up with cubs to death, it is believed that he died on February 14th, and to honor him, Pope Gelasius set aside this date. But the King Henry VIII declared the day officially a holiday on 1537.

As time passed by Valentine became a Saint for all the lovers, and people around the world started to celebrate love during this day. Also some people believed that the first person of the opposite sex who one met the morning on February 14th, would be that person's Valentine.

We talked about why it is celebrated love in this day, but let me tell you now the origin of Valentine's day letters and poems: Supposedly the tradition of send poems on Valentine's day started thanks to a Frenchman, Charles Duke Of Orleans around 1415, who was made prisoner during the Battle Of Agincourt.

For various years he sent poems or as we know them now "Valentines" to his wife back in France. The first commercial Valentine card appeared in 1800, they started just with poems, but later some art was added to give it some more romanticism. And this is the origin of Valentines day, please
